Fit for the Future – Local Government Forum
By Ravi Fernando
The state government in NSW has initiated a reform process starting with the ‘Fit for the Future’ submissions that all Councils were asked to prepare and submit by the end of June just passed. The next stages in the NSW reform process are unclear and will be partially dependent on the submissions. Although the specifics may be unclear, it is commonly understood that reform is essential to ensure that Councils are sustainable, well-managed and ready to play an active role in helping communities grow. The required transformation may include amalgamations, service rationalisation and capability development. Councils have the opportunity to lead the reform agenda by developing collaborative strategies to address the reform priorities.
Thrive Plus is hosting a Local Government Forum on 25 August 2015 to bring together executives and managers from the sector to work collaboratively and develop common approaches to address the reform agenda. Recognised specialists in local government reform will facilitate key discussion forums to ensure that participants leave with valuable learnings about key strategies that are proven to drive performance in Councils.
The day will include:
- an overview and discussion about the next stages in the state government’s reform process
- facilitated workshops that address the key transformational levers of process improvement, behavioural alignment and performance benchmarking
- visits to selected Councils to explore how they are addressing the reform agenda.
